No one is moving quite like filmmaker Guy Ritchie these days. The director will likely have two projects out in 2024 and maybe even three, with a fourth beginning production. First, there’s “The Gentleman” Netflix series spin-off, which he directed and wrote, and it arrives in March. One month later, Ritchie returns, this time to cinemas and the big screen with Lionsgate’s “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”

A WWII action-comedy—you don’t hear that one often—and the cast is absolutely stacked. The film stars Henry Cavill and Eiza González, but also has a massive supporting cast in “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusamokun, Henrique Zaga, Til Schweiger, with Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes. Maybe it’s his “Inglourious Basterds,” only done through the lens of WWII with mostly English characters.
From a screenplay written by Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson and Arash Amel & Guy Ritchie, the film is based on the book, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops” by Damien Lewis. Jerry Bruckheimer is one of the producers, so you know this one will go big.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.
As for those other Guy Ritchie projects, well, he’s already finished shooting another action film starring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal & Eiza González, and who knows, maybe that’ll be at a festival later this year, maybe TIFF? Beyond that, he’s already gearing up to shoot the adventure heist film, “Fountain Of Youth,” starring Jon Krasinski, Natalie Portman, and Eiza González.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Up next in theaters, “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare” which lands in theaters April 19, 2024. Watch the first trailer below.
