Atlas
Jennifer Lopez leans into science fiction with the upcoming action thriller film, “Atlas,” from director Brad Peyton (“Rampage”). The film follows Lopez as Atlas Shepherd, a data analyst whose distrust of artificial intelligence leads her on a perilous mission with a renegade robot. The film stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong
Release Date: Available to stream May 24 on Netflix.

Furiosa” 
The highly anticipated follow-up to “Mad Max: Fury Road” arrives in the action-thriller “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” Anya Taylor-Joy plays Furiosa, originally played by Charlize Theron. George Miller returns to direct the post-apocalyptic story that follows Furiosa as she tries to make her way home in the barren wasteland. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, and Alyla Browne also star. 
Release Date: In theaters May 23 via Warner Bros. Pictures.

Robot Dreams
Nominated for Best Animated Film at the 2024 Academy Awards, “Robot Dreams” finally gets its theatrical release. Pablo Berger Uranga (“Blancanieves”) directs the film which is based on the comic by Sara Varon. The story takes place in New York City during the 1980s, following Dog and his assembled Robot as his companion. 
Release Date: In theaters May 31 via NEON.

Young Woman And The Sea
Daisy Ridley (“Sometimes I Think About Dying”) stars as the competitive swimmer Trudy Ederle in “Young Woman and the Sea.” The story follows the real-life saga of Ederle, who, in 1926, became the first woman to ever swim the English Channel. The biographical drama is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book of the same name. Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler also star. 
Release Date: In theaters May 31 via Walt Disney Studios.

Hit Man
Richard Linklater reunites with Glen Powell for the first time since “Everybody Wants Some” for “Hit Man.” The two co-wrote the screenplay based on a Texas Monthly article of the same name from 2001. Powell stars as an undercover police officer who poses as varying types of hitmen to arrest those who are hiring him. His life unravels when he meets and subsequently tries to help a woman in need. Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, and Molly Bernard also star. 
Release Date: In theaters May 24 via Netflix prior to streaming June 7.

Honorable Mentions: Elsewhere, horror fans can keep an eye out for “The Strangers: Chapter 1” on May 17. Chris Pratt tackles another famous character as the voice of Garfield in “The Garfield Movie” out May 24. Jerry Seinfeld makes his first return to films since “Bee Movie” in “Unfrosted” for Netflix on May 3. Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, and Robert De Niro star in the comedy-drama “Ezra,” out on May 31.
