'The Death Of Robin Hood': Hugh Jackman & Jodie Comer To Star In Michael Sarnoski's Upcoming Dark Take On The Legendary Outlaw

What’s Michael Sarnoski up to after “A Quiet Place: Day One“? Deadline reports the “Pig” director has his next project ready for the upcoming Cannes market through WME Independent. And “The Death Of Robin Hood” sounds great: a dark take on the outlaw legend with Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer set to star.

Sarnoski’s film will star Jackman as an older, rundown Robin Hood who, after a grave injury, finds himself in the care of a mysterious woman who may offer him salvation from a life of crime and murder. Does that make Comer Maid Marian to Jackman’s Robin? That’s unclear right now, but it sounds like great parts for both, and reiminiscent of Jackman’s turn as Wolverine in 2017’s “Logan.” Sarnoski will both write and direct the film, as he did for “Pig” and “A Quiet Place: Day One.”

“The Death Of Robin Hood” boasts a solid production team, too.  Lyrical Media finances the picture, with Alexander Black producing through the banner.  Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett also produce through Ryder Picture Company. Executive producers on the film include Lyrical’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Seller, as well as Rama Gottumukkala, Jackman, and Sarnoski.

“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood,” Sarnoski said in a press statement. “Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”

Ryder and Scott made their own statement through Ryder Picture Company: “This is not the story of Robin Hood we’ve all come to know. Instead, Michael has crafted something far more grounded and visceral. Thanks to Alexander Black and our friends at Lyrical along with Rama and Michael, the world is going to love seeing Hugh and Jodie together in this epic.”

“The Death Of Robin Hood” is Jackman’s first film after the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which hits theaters this summer. As for Comer, she’s also in theaters this summer with Jeff Nichols‘ “The Bikeriders.” The actress is currently shooting Dany Boyle‘s “28 Years Later,” which should arrive sometime next year.

As for Sarnoski, “A Quiet Place: Day One” hits theaters on June 28. No one expected Sarnoski to make a blockbuster sequel about an alien invasion after “Pig,” but “The Death Of Robin Hood” sounds more like his kind of project. Don’t be surprised if his third film establishes the director as a major talent.
