'Masters Of The Universe': Amazon MGM Dates Their Live-Action Reboot For June 5, 2026

By the power of Greyskull! Deadline reports that Amazon MGM has dated their live-action reboot of “Masters Of The Universe” to arrive in two summers: June 5, 2026, to be exact. The co-production with Mattel Films has been long in the making. But after the success of “Barbie” last summer, this will likely be one of several potential Mattel movies on the 2026 calendar (Hot Wheels,” Barnie,” and Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots are all in the pipeline, among others).

But back to “Masters Of The Universe.” For those unfamiliar with the He-Man saga, it’s one of the most wildly popular 1980s action figures and animated series.  The story follows a young Prince Adam after he crash lands on Earth as he attempts to recover his lost magical Power Sword he’ll need to defend his home planet Eternia from the evil Skeletor.  But to defeat his adversary and save Eternia, Prince Adam must become He-Man: the most legendary hero in the universe. Sound hokey to anyone else? Sure, but the franchise was one of the ’80s biggest touchstones in animation and syndicated TV, assuring the live-action remake will have an audience.

And it’s been a journey as perilous as Prince Adam’s to get “Masters Of The Universe” onto the big screen. This reboot has seen several iterations before landing at Amazon MGM: first at Sony, then at Netflix. “Bumblebee” director Travis Knight will helm the film for the studio, with Chris Butler penning the screenplay (David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee wrote earlier drafts).  Robbie Brenner leads producers through Mattel, with Todd BlackJason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch also producing through Escape Artists.

The news about “Masters Of The Universe” and its new release date comes quickly after Amazon MGM dated another buzzy project for 2026: Project Hail Mary,” with Ryan Gosling set to star. But those are just a couple of things Amazon MGM has announced this year: other projects include The Accountant 2,” Best Of Enemies,” and G20,” which all have yet to be dated.

Stay tuned for which A-list actor will play He-Man in “Masters Of The Universe” (and for all of our sakes, let’s hope it’s not Chris Pratt).
