‘Arcadian’ Clip: Nicolas Cage Tries To Hold Out Hope During The Post-Apocalypse In New Indie [Exclusive]

A father and his twin teenage sons fight to survive in a remote farmhouse at the end of the world. In the new RLJE indie “Arcadian,” Nicolas Cage must try and parent and keep his children alive during a perilous post-apocalyptic setting where pollution has destroyed much of the world and created dangerous mutated creatures.

The film stars Cage, Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins, and Sadie Soverall, but if you’re looking for “rage Cage,” you’ve come to the wrong place. His performance in the film is much more nuanced and subtle, more akin to more of his recently acclaimed turns in “Pig,” “Joe,” and “Dream Scenario.”

Directed by Ben Brewer, “Arcadian” is like a mix of quieter, emotional indie family drama and suspenseful action horror/visceral creature features, and the two, working together, are an exciting mix (read our review). The clip we have to share is indicative of the human qualities of the film: trying to hold out hope and put on a brave face during an always-precarious post-catastrophe.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In a near future, normal life on Earth has been decimated. Paul and his two sons, Thomas and Joseph, have been living a half-life – tranquility by day and torment by night. One day, Thomas doesn’t return home on time from a visit to his crush, the nearby farm girl, Charlotte. Paul chooses to leave the safety of their fortified farm, risking his life to find Thomas. Just as he finds his boy, a nightmarish battle ensues. Back at the house, Joseph is scared and all alone to defend himself against the nightly attack.

The film premiered at South by Southwest in March and opens weekend in limited release on April 12, 2024. It will be followed by a streaming release later in the year on Shudder and AMC+.
