Whoa! The long delayed, production troubled “47 Ronin” is actually getting released, and the big question is whether or not it can rebound from its not so pleasant past to pull a “World War Z” and land on its feet. It arguably has a harder hill to climb, lacking a Brad Pitt-esque lead (though Keanu Reeves is no slouch) or easily digestible plot (gotta be honest, we still kinda have no clue what the fuck is going on in this thing). But maybe the razzle dazzle will be enough to part holiday moviegoers with grandma’s gift money.
A new Japanese trailer has landed, which shows a lot of people entering rooms and jumping around dramatically in the dark, but again, we’re not quite sure what it’s all in service of. Apparently, Reeves will play Kai, a half-breed samurai who teams up with his former clan to seek vengeance when their master is killed. And apparently this will involve people who can throw fire around or something. Maybe this will be good, but right now it kinda looks like an over CGI-ed mess. Also, the international poster is just plain hilarious.
Co-starring Hiroyuki Sanada, Ko Shibasaki, Tadanobu Asano and Rinko Kikuchi, “47 Ronin” will stuff your stocking on Christmas Day. [ComingSoon/Recent Movie Posters]
