Six years ago, “MacGruber” hit cinemas, and it flopped, but like “Anchorman” and “Zoolander,” it found new life again on home video. Will Forte‘s simple concept — what if MacGyer was thoroughly inept and had a huge ego — started as a series of “Saturday Night Live” sketches, expanded into the movie, and has since become a cult favorite. Over the past little while, there has been a lot of chatter about a potential sequel, but not much in the way of movement. Until now.

The co-writer and director “MacGruber,” Jorma Taccone, has revealed on Twitter that the work has begun on the script for “MacGruber 2.” There’s not much to go on other than a couple of tweets right now, and it remains to be seen if Universal will give it the greenlight. Taccone is coming off a flop for the studio, this summer’s hilarious “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” and one only has to look at “Zoolander 2” to see that time doesn’t always make an audience’s heart grow fonder. However, Will Forte is earning good notices for his work on the Fox series “The Last Man On Earth,” so perhaps that will help in the decision making process.
So find some gum and string and cross your fingers that “MacGruber 2” finally happens. [Splitsider]
